On April 16^th, members of the Cascade Elementary School 4-H Club participated in the District Project Achievement statewide public speaking competition. The annual event was held at Fairplay Middle School in Douglasville, GA.

The 4-H curriculum is designed to complement in-school instruction and provide learning opportunities in various learning environments and settings. Partnering in education through in school club delivery is a priority of Georgia 4-H.  The 4-H faculty and staff

bring relevance to the Georgia Performance Standards by providing fifth through twelfth grade students opportunities for experiential learning. Program objectives are:

o  To acquire an understanding of subject matter in a given project area.

o  To develop skills in researching, assembling, and presenting information.

o  To stimulate interest in continuing project work through 4-H experiences.

o  To provide opportunities for 4-H members to develop and enhance qualities of integrity, sportsmanship, cooperation, poise, and self-confidence.

o  To help 4-H members develop skills in leadership and communication.

In the District Project Achievement competition, students may choose and research an array of topics ranging from aerodynamics to zoology. The Cascade Elementary students who placed in the event were:

Yasmine George 3^rd Place  “What is the Great Pyramid of Giza?”

Arlexia Parks 3^rd Place “What is the Difference Between a Tortoise and a Turtle?”
