Book Fair

2012 All-Star Book Fair Book Fair - All-Star Book Fair: Every Reader is a Star!

October 22 - 26, 2012
The Scholastic Book Fair takes place in the Media Center Monday through Friday October 22th - 26th. The Fair is open from 7:45am-3:30pm Monday through Wednesday, and 8:00am-12:00 pm on Friday. On Thursday the 25th the Fair will open at 7:45 am and stay open until 8:00pm for Family Night. Please come by on Family Night for snacks and stories, and kids can wear PJs or their favorite athletic/sports team gear!  Family night will run in two shifts between the hours of 5p - 8p. We are encouraging families with K-2 students to come between 5p - 6:30p, and families with 3-5 students to come between 6:30p - 8p. In addition, pizza will be available for purchase from 6p-7p (while supplies last) so you can take care of dinner while you are at the fair!

New this year is our Dudes & Doughnuts event on Wednesday the 24th from 7:45am - 8:30am, where students can bring their favorite guy - dad, uncle, brother, grandfather, cousin, or any other special adult and have doughnuts and juice/coffee while browsing the fair together. Students will be given a late pass to class if they attend this event.

Our primary goal of the Fair is to get children excited about reading and to encourage enthusiastic lifelong readers. Children and their families can buy reasonably priced books for their home libraries and can also fulfill teacher wish lists for their classrooms. The proceeds from the Fair go toward books and enrichment materials for the Media Center.

In addition, the All For Books donation program goes directly toward the purchase of books for SPARK students who can't afford books. Any monies collected above what is needed for scholarships is matched by Scholastic in the form of book donations to worthy organizations dedicated to families in need, including the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. and Kids in Need Foundation. Please donate to All For Books at the Fair so we can help as many families as possible.

Every class will have a chance to visit the Fair once to browse for books, and then another day to buy the books each student has chosen to purchase. Details will be shared through flyers, the Spark-e, and email before the Fair.

If you are interested in contributing in some capacity to the book fair please contact Lynne Kushner or Celeste Smith.

Volunteer Jobs
  • FAIR SET-UP - Fair Set-Up Day, Friday, October 19 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) We need some strong hands to help us set up the actual books for the Fair, labeling shelves and carts, deciding on placement of books and other items for sale, as well as helping decorate the media center for this year's theme.
  • BOOK FAIR SHIFTS: We will need many volunteers to staff two-hour shifts during the Book Fair week, to guide the children through the browsing and buying of the books, re-shelving items, helping students locate desired books, keeping areas clean and neat, running the cash register, etc. We will also need volunteers for our book fair Family Night evening event.
  • FAIR BREAK DOWN - Friday, October 26 (12:00 p.m.) This group will take down all decorations and re-pack books and items to be returned to Scholastic and assist in other final needs of the Fair.
If you have any questions please contact Lynne Kushner or Celeste Smith.
