Dear Parents,

            The second grade teachers are excited about the upcoming school year.  We are firm believers that “Knowledge is Power”.  When the parent and teacher both set high expectations for the student, he/she will set high expectations for themselves.  We are looking forward to supporting your child in mastering the standards appropriate for the 2^nd grade.

            We will be communicating with you on a weekly basis through your child’s homework folder as well as by telephone contact.  Beginning Monday, August 15 your child will have homework in all core subject areas and will need to read 20 minutes each evening.  Homework packets will be due each Thursday.   The cycle will begin again on each Monday.  Your child may choose what they would like to read as long as the material is appropriate.  Children who read regularly increase their vocabulary and test scores.  At least 45 minutes to an hour should be set aside each day for homework. 

            The following is a list of supplies your child will need.  It is very important for your child to bring two to three pencils to school with them every day. 

Supply list:

1 pack of #2 pencils

5 manila folders

2^nd grade writing tablets

Notebook paper

4 spiral notebooks

2 red color pencils

1 box of Kleenex

1 bottle of hand sanitizer

3 glue sticks

1 box of crayons

1 apron

1 roll of paper towels

            Please send us changes of phone numbers on your child’s homework sheet as changes occur.  Please do not hesitate to call if needed.  We are not able to talk during school hours, but will return your call during a break or after school.
