Current Focus

Math: Measurement Mania!!! We will continue our unit study of measurement. We will use a variety of tools to explore length, volume, capacity, time, and money. This week we will introduce time and coin identification.

Reading: We are learning to summarize by identifying the main idea and supporting details of texts, using both fiction and nonfiction.

Language Arts:

Science: We are exploring Matter and learning to ask and answer questions about the world around us through inquiry. We will begin our unit on ENERGY!

Social Studies: As we continue on our journey through Georgia's past, we will learn about more of Georgia's first People. We will learn more about Martin Luther King Jr. , Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove.

A day in the life of a second grader at
Peyton Forest Elementary will include:

Reading, Langugae Arts, Science, Math, and Social Studies instruction delievered through the Common Core Curriculum. Literacy will be integrated across all content areas. Students will read a great deal of informational text. They will also learn to write in informational, narrative, and persausive formats.

Other activities include Music, Physical Education, Spanish, and Art classes; read alouds, use of the computer lab or mobile laptop lab and the list goes on!

As you can see, our second graders are busy! We are learning to increase and improve the reading skills we learned in first grade. We are learning to think about the world around us and ask questions. We are learning about our government and our history. We are learning to add and subtract 3 digit numbers, count money, tell time, and learn about measurement. We are learning to write great stories. And, we are learning to make new friends! We hope to see you in second grade!
