Information Technology Small Learning Community

Instructional Approach

The Information Technology (IT) Small Learning Community curriculum is designed to assist students in developing skills necessary to succeed in rigorous, relevant coursework that will provide a framework for preparation for college and post-graduate work. By the end of their senior year, students will be prepared to attend colleges and universities of their choice.

Goals

Graduate at least 90% of ninth graders in four years
Ensure all students are prepared to enter college with real post-secondary options
Ensure the Information Technology Small Learning Community is the first choice for parents and students in the City of Atlanta
Ensure every student receives a world-class education.

Objectives

To achieve Georgia Performance Standards
To meet National Educational Technology Standards for students (NETS)
To meet International Technology Education Associations Standards (ITEA)
To establish a clear and concise six-year post-secondary plan

Program of Study

In addition to the core program of study, students will be required to take the following classes to meet the requirements of the Small Learning Community:

Beginning Programming Fundamentals of Web Design

Intermediate Programming Advanced Web Design

Competencies

Students will be able to apply technological knowledge and proficiency to solve real-world problems.
Students will demonstrate written and oral proficiency, and will question the views of others when those views are not logically supported.
Students will read and understand a range of publications and technical materials.
Students will possess and understanding of and appreciation for the contributions made by the most innovative creators in the art of history, dance, music, theater and visual arts.
Students will enhance interpersonal/intrapersonal skills to interact with a diverse cross section of academicians and peers.
Students will maintain an academic and career digital portfolio/Senior Capstone Project.
