Week at a Glance
The purpose of the Gifted and Talented classroom is to enrich and enhance the skills being taught in the regular classroom. The units selected for the Challenge students are geared to meet the needs of high achieving learners.
1st –5th Grade Forensic Science: Students will become Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) while studying forensics. Forensic science is the study of objects that relate to a crime. The objects are evidence and analyzing the evidence is what forensic scientists do. Forensics involves the collection and presentation of scientific evidence to promote justice in courts of law, and it is an indispensable part of a criminal investigation. They observe, classify, compare, use numbers, measure, predict, interpret data and draw inferences. Scientists they are and crimes they will solve.
This unit will consists of the following activities: Daily CSI Challenges, Crime Scenes & Testimonial Evidence, Physical Evidence, Fingerprinting, Impression Evidence, Hairs & Fibers, Chromatography, Blood Basics, Forensic Entomology, Forensic Anthropology, DNA Evidence, Arson Investigation, CRASH Unit, and a wealth of CSI Adventures to include Web adventures, games, and other fun activities
All lessons, regardless of grade level, will be supplemented with additional activities such as problem solving, journal writing, analogies, brainteasers, current events, logic grids, and other high level thinking activities.
All Gifted students will have homework assignments on a regular basis. All homework is due the morning of the scheduled Gifted and Talented class. Parents can check for homework assignments and other important information in the Gifted Folder weekly.
Since students attend Gifted once a week, it is extremely important for each student to be in attendance at every Gifted and Talented session. If for some reason a student misses a class, he/she should see me as soon as possible for make up assignments.
All Gifted students are expected to follow the rules of Fickett Elementary.
