Greetings Margaret Fain Families:

I am happy and honored to begin my third year as the principal of Margaret Fain Elementary School. I am very excited about what this year holds for your child. This year we will transition to a new Common Core Curriculum in all grade levels. Our school motto is “Our Students are Ready to SOAR to New Heights” and I believe that with the new Common Core standards and the dedication of our teachers we are well on our way to becoming a School of Excellence. In order to become a School of Excellence we must ensure our students are dressed appropriately daily, school agendas are being used as designed, all students get to school safely, and you are involved in our quest towards Excellence. We look forward to your child’s arrival every day at 7:30 AM.

Margaret Fain Elementary is a uniform school and the expectation is that all of our students are dressed accordingly. The uniforms consist of the following items: hunter green, gold, or white collared shirts, khaki pants, skirts, or shorts and dark color shoes. Research states that when students wear school uniforms they are more focused on learning and not on what their peers are wearing. Samples of the uniforms are available at the school for you to review and order. Thank you so much for your support in making sure your child is dressed appropriately daily. Students will be allowed to dress down twice a month, please review the school calendar for more information.

This school year every student in grades three through five will receive a school agenda. The agenda will be given to each child at the beginning of the school year for free. If your child loses their agenda, another one must be purchased for $5. The agendas will be used for teachers to communicate with you daily and for students to write down all assignments. I am asking that you check this agenda book and initial daily as a form of communication with the teacher. As always, I have an open door policy and encourage you to come in to meet with me if you have any concerns about your child’s education. Also, please make time to come by the school to volunteer and meet with our parent liaison, Ms. Tracie Williams. We are here to offer support to you as parents.

This year there are several changes with transportation. At this time, we only have three bus routes 717, 636, and 644. Please call the school to determine if there is a bus route for your community. All students who walk to and from school, will assemble in the gymnasium daily for dismissal, you are more than welcome to meet your child in the gymnasium. Also, all car riders will dismiss from the Media Center, the front driveway will be utilized to dismiss all car riders.

Finally, the sign of a successful school is one where the parents and the school work together to achieve success. I am asking each of you to be an active member of our PTA by joining the PTA for $5 and attending PTA meetings, volunteering, checking your child’s book bag, and stopping in just to say hello. I am confident that together we will have a great school year. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or concerns please feel free to contact me at (404) 802-8600 or via email mgreene@atlanta.k12.ga.us.

Thank you for making Margaret Fain Elementary the school of choice to educate your child.

Sincerely,

Mesha L. Greene, Principal
