May 2012

Dear Inman Families,

It’s hard to believe we are at the final stretch of the year.  We have just completed our CRCT testing, which went tremendously well.  Students were at school on time and stayed very focused.  Thank you for your support in making this a successful time and for the encouragement and many snacks that were provided.  We will have our CRCT re-testing at the end of the month, May 17th and 18th; this re-testing will be for our 8th graders only.

This is a critical time of year for your children to ensure they are passing all of their courses so that they will receive the appropriate credits to move to the next grade level.  It’s crucial that your child stays focused on their academics and on completing and turning in their assignments.   Please note the included FINALS schedule within Insight.  I strongly encourage you to continue to access the Parent Portal (Infinite Campus) for grade updates, teacher websites for homework, and the tutorial schedule for tutoring in all core content areas.   Unlike in past years, credit recovery will NOT be made available to students this summer so it is imperative that students pass all the necessary courses and earn all the necessary credits during this school year.

A Summer Academy will be provided to students this summer but the focus of this academy will be on an introduction to next year’s content.  Summer Academy will run from June 4 – June 29.  The Summer Academy is designed to provide students with exposure to the Common Core State Standards in Reading/ELA, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies to prepare students for a successful start in their next grade level.  Again, this will not be an opportunity for credit recovery, but rather an acceleration of the content for the coming school year.

On a different note, this time of year brings sunshine and smiles, along with many challenges for us at Inman regarding dress code.  We ask that you please take the time to remind your children of appropriate dress code.   Girls should not be showing their shoulders, straps, or midriff, or wearing sleeveless tops.   Skirts and shorts must be a reasonable length - no shorter than3 ½ inches above the knee.  Boys need to tuck in their shirts and pull up their pants so their underwear does not show.  NO FLIP FLOPS, SLIP ONS, HIGH HEELS, or slippers may be worn at Inman.  Thank you again for ensuring your child comes to school dressed appropriately.  If a student chooses to come to school wearing clothing not in dress code the student will not be allowed to attend class until they change.  Parents will be called to bring in a change of clothing.

Over the summer you will see a portable learning community being established on the field.  This will accommodate our growing enrollment, predicted to be approximately 1024 students next year.  I am working closely with the district to ensure that this is a smooth transition for the coming school year.   I hope to see you at the Principal’s Coffee this coming Thursday, May 10 at 8:20am to provide further updates as I have them.   Please also make sure you pre-register (see the registration dates included in this Insight) to assist us in predicting our numbers more accurately for next year.

Finally, I want to personally thank each of you for your support in making Inman a successful experience for your child.  Your support provides us better avenues to educate your children and to encourage them to meet their full academic potential.  We’ve also done a lot of work this year to provide both academic and social support through the Advisory groups.  We hope to continue this focus as we move into the 2012-2013 school year.

Best wishes to our fantastic 8th graders this year.  They have been a delightful group of students and I wish them the very best as they transition to high school.  Have a lovely summer with family and I look forward to seeing many of you next year.
