Mr. Hunt

Mr. Marshall Hunt, Principal
Scott Elementary School

Greetings Scott Elementary Family,

We have battled the snow and ice to break through to resume great teaching and learning.  We have several items on our plates in the upcoming weeks most important the 3rd and 5th grade Writing Assessments.  More information will be forthcoming.

In this second semester we were fortunate enough to reap the benefits of Springfield Baptist Church and The Passion Church.  Rev. Carson, pastor of Spingfield Baptist Church, comes to read and engage our 3rd graders on a regular basis.  At the end of the first semester,The Passion Church provided a book to each of the students in Atlanta Public Schools.  Our school received some of the best popular books of the day.  Academic success is impacted by great reading skills and both of these initiatives have helped our students.

Please know that students are rewarded in a variety of ways for great reading.  The Pizza Hut "Book It" program awards students with certificates for free pizza for meeting classroom reading goals.  The Six Flags Corporation rewards students with a free ticket to Six Flags each spring;  those reading logs need to be returned by February 28, 2014.    Please ask your child's teacher for the password to tumblebooks.com to enjoy books online anywhere.   Our district purchased this outstanding database to increase access of print materials to all students.

We also encourage you take advantage of Infinite Campus to check on your child's progress and see assignments.   Our Parent Liasons and Media Specialist will host a refresher course for parents on how to use Infinite Campus to improve student learning on March 10th.

Please look at the top of our home page to see the packet of additional activities to support our students in light of the days that were missed during our weather incidents.

We are pleased to announce that 2 of our Scott students placed at the District Science Fair at the Silver level.  Those students are in the 4th and 5th Grades.

Moreover, parents please be on the look out for the Pre-registration packets.  All documents requested must be returned by March 7, 2014 to complete the pre-registration packet.

Thank you for all of your support as we travel the journey on this flight called "Student Success"!

  • APS Statement Regarding Personnel Changes

Atlanta Public Schools is appreciative of the leadership demonstrated by all of our principals, particularly those who have served the district for many years.  Like all school districts, APS conducts an annual assessment of where we are as a system, as well as a review of any revisions to state law. Necessary changes are made to ensure the district remains in compliance and that all of our students are prepared for the next level and long-term success. This process includes an intense and methodical performance review of all of our schools and their leadership teams. For the full statement, please click here.

  • Atlanta Public Schools parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey administered by the Georgia Department of Education. Data from the Georgia Parent Survey will be used along with the Georgia Student Health Survey and the Georgia School Personnel Survey to calculate the School Climate Star Rating within the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI).

The Georgia Parent Survey has 20 questions and should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete it. Data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online.
