MRS. ALVA MARICE HARTRY

             Mrs. Hartry is the only child of Mary A. White and the late James H. White. She grew up in Milledgeville, Georgia, and was educated in the Baldwin County School System. After finishing high school in December of her senior year, Mrs. Hartry enrolled in Georgia College and State University which is in Milledgeville.  She went on to graduate from there earning a B.S. and graduate degrees in Business Education. Furthermore, Mrs. Hartry has also earned an Educational Leadership degree from Kennesaw State University.
 
               Mrs. Hartry’s passion is using and learning about technology. Currently, she is a doctoral student pursing a degree in instructional technology and distance education with a minor in urban education. Her dissertation research includes researching how computer games, applications, and social networks affect student motivation for learning. Completing this degree will allow her to achieve her career objective, which is to work with educators and managers at all levels and help them to efficiently incorporate technology in their schools or businesses 

Mrs. Hartry has been employed as a business and technology instructor for several years. She has had the pleasure to touch many young lives at Decatur High School in Decatur City Schools, Turner Middle School, and B.E.S.T. Academy Middle School in Atlanta Public Schools. Mrs. Hartry is an experienced instructor. She is a master technology and business educator who has taught computer applications, business essentials, accounting, banking and finance, computer programming (JAVA, C++), and web design at the high school level and 6th-8th grade business and computer science classes at the middle school level. During her high school tenure at Decatur High School, she was also the work base learning coordinator. In this position, she place and supervised 11th and 12th grade students in entry level business positions.

In Mrs. Hartry’s spare time, she likes sewing, creating crafts, reading, shopping for shoes, and performing tasks on the computer. On a more personal note, she is married to James Hartry, a high school educator/head basketball coach at Tucker High School in Dekalb County Schools. They have two daughters: Adria, an occupational therapist graduate from Florida A.M. University employed by Fulton County Schools, and Jamie, a Southern University speech communication/theatre and drama graduate employed as a device specialist for Verizon Wireless.

Mrs. Hartry is proud to represent B.E.S.T. Academy Middle School as the 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year. She truly believes that being a lifelong educator has made her educator she is today. Mrs. Hartry has made a commitment to learn something new every day, and by doing so, she enjoys what she discovers and is able to apply what she has learned. This application will allow her to continue to be a great teacher for future generations!
