Mr. Scott comes to Jean Childs Young Middle School with more than 20 years of experience as a respected innovative leader and turnaround change agent; displaying excellence in both teaching and school administration. He is a strong organizer with a track record of developing procedures which focus on improving student achievement. Additionally, he is proficient communicator who has the ability to reach diverse audiences.
Prior to his appointment to Principal of Jean Childs Young Middle School, he served as a Principal Support Coach with Atlanta Public Schools. Previously, Mr. Scott was Principal of East Columbus Magnet Academy, a middle school in the Muscogee County School District. During his eight-year tenure, Mr. Scott successfully raised student achievement and employee morale while lowering the number of serious discipline infractions. This helped lift the school from the Needs Improvement (NI) list to consecutive years of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under the old No Child Left Behind initiative. As a result, East Columbus Middle moved from Needs Improvement status to a Title I Distinguished School of Excellence.
His educational career began at Florida A & M University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics. From there he obtained his Master of Science in Education from Columbus State University and acquired his Educational Leadership and Supervision certificate from Troy State University. He is the father of one son and one daughter. Mr. Scott’s favorite quote is: “Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of a true education”. ~ Dr. Martin Luther King
