JCYMS Literacy Scholars have been recognized in APS this year for record growth in Reading Plus! Young Middle School received the award for top Reading Plus usage, lessons and words read in the entire district this year igniting a boost in reading throughout the entire district!
Please be reminded that right upon the students' return on Monday April 10th, students will be taking the GA Milestones Assessment in English and Writing on April 12th and 13th. We are advising that students take one hour each day of Spring Break to review the English GA Standards of Excellence with use of educational Youtube videos. Youtube and Teachertube is accessible daily via cell phone, tablets and computers. This practice will help refresh students on each English standard. Standards can be found on the Georgia DOE website or here at the Young Middle School website if students do not have a list of the standards. Thanks so much for taking charge of your student's education and continuing to support excellence. Have a safe and productive Spring Break!

The issues of bullying, conflict management, healthy lifestyles, etc. are common struggles regardless of nationality. At JCY, we have reinforced the STEPS conflict management module from the Bullying workshop presented at the school. The Malawi youth will also receive the same presentations that JCY students experienced. We will give a more detailed understanding of their common struggles during the “Week of Understanding” while pointing out third world hardships.
Georgia Milestones is designed to provide information about how well students are mastering the stateadopted content standards in the core content areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Importantly, Georgia Milestones is designed to provide students with critical information about their own achievement and their readiness for their next level of learning—be it the next grade, the next course, or the next endeavor (college or career).

JCYMS 6th Graders embarked upon the most fantastic business and life skills journey ever at the Discovery Center's Junior Achievement Biztown at the GA World Congress Center. Junior Achievement BizTown creates a unique opportunity where 6th grade students are able to interact within a simulated macro-economy, and take on the role of employee, tax payer and consumer. During the visit to JA BizTown, students receive unique job assignments and work in teams at their assigned business. By the end of the simulation each student completes a day's work, develops a personal budget, deposits a paycheck at the bank and makes purchasing decisions. Bringing Education to Life The experience begins in the classroom with four weeks of JA-provided curriculum that culminates with a day at JA BizTown. The center is designed as an interactive marketplace representative of the local business community, including financial services, media, telecommunications, utilities, manufacturing and more. The center is authentic and interactive to create a transformational experience for all students. (JA Website)
